Meet the Governors

Stephen Passey, Headteacher (Governor ex-officio)

Stephen has worked across a number of First schools and Primary schools in and around Oxford, taking his first Deputy post in 1996. In 2011 he took up the Headship of Bishopswood School, near Henley. He became Headteacher of Wheatley Nursery School and John Watson School in September 2013.  He is married with three children of his own at school/university and has lived in Oxford for over twenty five years.

Sarah Simmonds

Sarah became Joint Chair with Sarah Coleridge at the end of September  2017, previously Sarah had been the Vice Chair of the joint governing body since June 2014 . She has had a long association with both Wheatley Nursery and John Watson going back over 16 years, as one of her daughters attended both schools. Prior to the formation of a single hard federation Sarah had enjoyed a successful reign as Chair of Wheatley Nursery. She has a particular interest in inclusion and is active within the local community .

Sarah Coleridge

Sarah became joint Chair with Sarah Simmonds at the end of September 2017, Sarah has been a Governor since June 2014 and is the Health and Safety Governor, an area of school life in which she has had an ongoing interest. She has had prior experience working as a Teaching Assistant on a supply basis for John Watson School. She lives locally and is an active member of Wheatley Parish Council. She has five children and a grandchild.

Venetia Mayman

Venetia is Safeguarding Governor and chair of the Resources Committee. She joined the governing body in June 2014. She has enjoyed a varied career within Education, as a teacher of English, Drama and Media studies, as a deputy head of an Oxfordshire Comprehensive and then a school improvement adviser before taking on the headship of the VIrtual School for Looked After Children. She has also worked as an Ofsted Lead Inspector. She currently runs her own company Yoga for Schools.

 

 

 

 

Helen Nowicki

Helen is now an associate Governor, premises focus only. Helen stepped down as Chair at the end of September 2017, she had been the Chair of the WNS/JWS federated governing body since June 2014. Helen joined the governing body in September 2013. Helen spent her entire professional life working in education for Local Authorities, initially as a teacher then educational psychologist before becoming an education officer. She retired to Oxford in 2012 with her husband, dog and three cats.

Clea Lees

Clea has been on the governing body since 2015. She holds a co-opted governor role and has particular interest in family and community engagement. Prior to taking up the promoted post as head of sixth form at a local special school, she had enjoyed over 12 years teaching at John Watson School teaching across the age groups.

Carol Quartermaine

Carol is a parent governor with a child in KS4 and another child in an Oxfordshire comprehensive school. She works as a primary teacher in Buckinghamshire where she is a full time class teacher in a large school. In addition Carol co-ordinates maths throughout the school,  manages trainee teachers and is also a member of the senior leadership team.

 

 

 

   

Rachel FRachel Forsyth                   

Rachel has recently joined the Governing body as a Staff Governor. She has worked at the John Watson School for just over a year in her role as Systems Administrator, forming part of the Administrative Team. She is also currently a Parent Governor at Great Milton School and sits on the Sub Committee for the Maple Tree Children’s Centre.

Prior to her appointment at John Watson School she held various positions within education as well as running her own business. She is married with two children and a menagerie of animals and is particularly interested in exploring the great outdoors in the trusty family Landrover.

 

 

Sharon Bond introduction

Sharon Bond

Sharon has worked at John Watson school and Wheatley Nursery School for  13 years. During this time I have mainly been based in nursery, however I worked in KS1 and KS2 in the afternoons when the nursery was only opened in the mornings. I am a Family Links parents course facilitator and run  10 week parent groups with the Maple Tree children’s centre for parents of  children in WNS and JWS and the local community. I have two sons and a daughter and one grandson.

 

 

 

Debbie Ball

Debbie began her career as a Nursery Nurse. After a few years as a private Nanny, she joined Wheatley Nursery when it opened as a stand alone Integrated Nursery in September 1993. She then completed a work based BEd and became a teacher whilst still working at Wheatley Nursery. Once qualified she worked at Pegasus Primary School before returning to John Watson and Wheatley Nursery in 2004. She taught in KS1 and KS2 and also some time in the secondary department too. She took a job share role with Sue Woodward within the Nursery and then as Deputy of both schools in September 2013. She enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 children and they all enjoy regular holidays in Dorset.

Sue Woodard

Sue grew up locally and went to Wheatley Park School and has fond memories of John Watson School learners in her lessons. Voluntary work in John Watson whilst in the Sixth form led to a career in SEN teaching. She returned as a teacher in 1996. Since then she has  taught across the school spending several years in KS2. In 2002 she was delighted to be employed by both John Watson and Wheatley Nursery School. She took a job share role with Debbie Ball as Wheatley Nursery School and Primary Deputy in September 2013. Sue has 2 children so is often out and about with them. She enjoys watching cricket at all levels and participating in Garsington Pantomimes, usually playing animals with not too many lines!

Chrissie Wicks

Chrissie is Mum to a child in Little Windmills, she lives locally with her husband, daughter and cat “Spike”. She has always lived locally and went to Wheatley Primary and Wheatley Park Schools. Chrissie’s association with Wheatley Nursery School goes back for many years as her mum Diane Wilson was the first Headteacher of Wheatley Nursery School when it was founded in 1993. She enjoys outdoor learning and is a qualified Forest School leader. Chrissie joined as a Parent Governor in Dec 2016.
